Um bókina
Embroidering scarves and aprons for the Faroese National Custume is not an old tradition in the Faroe Islands. Some creative women chose to embroider a single flower on the woven scarves and aprons to give them a special colour and characteristic. On the other hand, vests have been embroidered for a much longer time.
In the fifties, embroidery spread rapidly throughout the islands and soon one observed at festivals and especially at Ólavsøka, that the Faroese and made this tradition their own.
Tórshavnar Kvøld-, Ungdóms- og listaskúli later led the way for many years with courses in embroidery, and countless pieces of embroidery have been subsequently produced.
With this book we have, for the very first time, meterial in this area with reliable guidlines which can be used for both teaching and home use.
