Um bókina
What do islands have in common, except of being surrounded by water? How do they relate to the continents? These and other "insular" questions are discussed in this revelatory book by the Faroese anthropologist Firouz Gaini. The author takes readers to the North Atlantic in a search for "place" in the physical and cultural landscapes of the Faroe Islands. He guides us to airports and harbours, to private homes ans schools, but also to cyberspace. The book at hand is a reflection on the boundaries and contrasts that define place and identity from a smallislands perspective.
Dr. Firouz Gaini is teaching at the University of the Faroe Islands and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He is the author of several books in Faroese language. He has done fieldwork in the Faroe Islands and France.
