Um bókina
Sámal Joensen-Mikines, one of the Faroes' most importent artists, was born 100 years ago on Mykines. the westermost island of the faroese archipelago. All his life Mikines felt a strong bond with his native island, his village and its people, and his life's work offers a valuable and dignified insight into the life of this community in the 1920s-1950s. He depicts its nature, the mountains sihouetted against the sky, the precipices, the green pastures, the surf breaking against the cliffs, the storm and the rain, all of which still endures and will endure regardless of the charging times. It is impossible to visit this majestic island without calling to mind the brushstrokes of Mikines.
